Dazzling Dahlias
Dahlias come in a firework range of shapes and colours, some are spiky, some are pompom shape, and some just simple and single. The darker leaved varieties with single flowers are my favourite and these are some of the hardiest. ‘Bishop of Llandaff’ being one of the best, bringing zing and late colour to any flower border.
Easy to grow dahlias can be purchased as a tuber in spring or as a pot grown plant later in May/June. Plant with plenty of organic matter and water well in dry spells. They prefer a sunny position and can grow to a height of around 85-90cm
Vicky’s Top Tip
Remove the cone shaped dead flower buds regularly to encourage new round fresh flower buds. This will encourage flowering until the first frosts
